The Stone
(Andrew Combs)
Chunk of Coal Publishing (SESAC)
I’m fine, I’m fine
That’s what I tell myself all the time
All the time, I'm inside my head
I’ll learn, I’ll learn
That’s what I tell myself when I get burned
When I get burned, I just turn to lead
That’s the stone that blocks the way
Hides the light, darkens the day
That’s the stone I have to break alone
I’m fine, I’m fine
That’s what I tell myself all the time
All the time, I'm inside my head
That’s the stone that blocks the way
Hides the light, and darkens the day
That’s the stone I have to break alone
That’s the stone that blocks the way
Hides my heart, and darkens the day
That’s the stone I have to break alone
The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
A vibrant vision of "Central Americana" from the Costa Rica-based artist, blending heartland devotionals with playful Tropicália grooves. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 27, 2022
He is masterful on the piano. Robert Ellis writes songs that grab your attention and are very well written and often times catchy and witty. I love the fact he mostly used the piano on this one. I wish more artists followed this pattern. Yimmy Kil
