Ideal Man
(Andrew Combs)
Chunk of Coal Publishing (SESAC)
I hunger to be the hunter
Killing with ease
No conscience to see the difference
In beauty and beast
Steady finger on the trigger
Flesh in sight
I hunger to be the hunter
With blood in his eyes
With blood in his eyes
I envy the drunken poet
In a fitful of rage
Mind pried wide open
His heart on the page
Wasted on the fury
Of wisdom and wine
I envy the drunken poet
With blood in his eyes
With blood in his eyes
I’m just a stranger
Waiting my turn
To be somebody
That’s what they told me
If you could only
Be somebody
Tell me if I can
Would I be your ideal man?
I covet the coyote
Flashing his teeth
One mission, one motto
A mouth full of meat
Come hell or high-water
Begging or bite
I covet the coyote
With blood in his eyes
With blood in his eyes
The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
A vibrant vision of "Central Americana" from the Costa Rica-based artist, blending heartland devotionals with playful Tropicália grooves. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 27, 2022
He is masterful on the piano. Robert Ellis writes songs that grab your attention and are very well written and often times catchy and witty. I love the fact he mostly used the piano on this one. I wish more artists followed this pattern. Yimmy Kil
